Wouldn't conventionally-shaped USB sticks, with an Ubuntu-be logo on them be a better idea? I get the possible gadget appeal, but that's supposing your target audience is Linux-savvy. Also, I'm a little sceptic with "cute penguin" flash drives in regards to quality (internal) and build (external).

I like my USB sticks to be in one piece (no cap), sturdy as well as relatively discrete, so I can put them on a keychain.

How about something more traditional, like this: (Design-wise, maybe not this particular model. Notice how there is a space for a possible Ubuntu-be Sticker...)
