Except
- buying the usb sticks
- creating the customized iso (perhaps interesting for those that want a
multiboot : http://www.pendrivelinux.com/yumi-multiboot-usb-creator/)

there is also the topic on propagating this iso to all these 100-1000 usb
sticks...

"dd" is a nice 1:1 copy tool...

but it seems the following allows "Multiple outputs - dcfldd can output to
multiple files or disks at the same time."
http://dcfldd.sourceforge.net/

but according to this page ...it doesn't do this "at the same time" (unless
a newer version has improved this)
http://blog.notdot.net/2009/12/DIY-USB-preloading-with-nix

and in the comments I found this tool:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/dc3dd/

and someones found this script to be nice:
find /dev/sd[n-m] | awk '{print "if=" $0}' | xargs -P$PROCS dd if=$IMAGE

suggestions?
