Isso aconteceu comigo tb... Inicia o serviço sem especificar nada - Esmerald ou metacity - que ele volta a exibir as barras... Isso acontece, provavelmente, pq estes temas não são instalados junto e quando tu especifica qual tu quer usar e claro não tem instalado, ele não exibe nada....
