Quanto à placa de video, parece ter um bug aberto esperando retorno de dados/logs: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/120834 E um bug referente aos efeitos fusion e essa placa. http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=3563595 Tente desabilitar os efeitos 3D e usar o driver...
