Correction: In my case, the uninstallation of the bindwood firefox addon stops desktopcouch-service from crashing. Maybe I should have filed this report under a separate bug for bindwood; bindwood triggers this error when launching firefox: desktopcouch-service crashed with IOError in __init__()
