Public bug reported: Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.15-23-686
Just did some apt-get updates / installs and which failed because the file could not be accessed... was sudo to a bash shell as root. quick work around could be to put a ubuntu built 2.6.17 in the repositories. the file system shows up as: ls -l /etc | grep modu ?--------- ? ? ? ? ? /etc/modutils -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 206 2006-06-02 22:23 modules I had this problem periodically with debian testing / etch until upgrading to a custom built 2.6.17... running off knoppix and doing a --rebuild-tree fixed the issue (knoppix5.01 is on kernel 2.6.17 - i think) ** note the system in question has not crashed or been shutdown hard ever since dapper was installed clean from a CD == may be related to : ref: The 2.6.15-3 to 2.6.15-4 upgrade breaks reiserfs. Any attempt to unlink or rename a file results in an "Operation not permitted" error.
