Not to my knowledge, but I can see that NetworkManager is installed and started 
at startup. This may be an explanation.
This also may explain why I currently can  (but at the time 'auto-dhcp' worked 
could not) see NetworkManager in the notification area complaining falsely "no 
network connection".

Guess we can close this report now.
