Public bug reported: All vorbis-tools has to do is call a simple dbus method when oggenc starts encoding and a simple dbus method when it's finished. This way Gnome-Power-Manager doesn't auto-suspend or power-down while encoding is taking place.
While individual encodings do not take very long, oggenc is often used in scripts that can be going for a long time. I personally encode entire DVDs of FLACs (my CDs) into Vorbis at a time. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/GnomePowerManagerInactiveSleep for more information. ** Affects: vorbis-tools (Ubuntu) Importance: Untriaged Status: Unconfirmed -- Inhibit Gnome Power Manager from suspending while Oggenc is encoding https://launchpad.net/bugs/49797 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
