For users with unbearable surfing experience, try the following workaround:
Switch your /tmp folder to being RAM only, so that will prevent firefox to read 
from the disk every time you click on something to see if the file it wants to 
access is cached or not...

Basically to do so just add the following to /etc/fstab: 
"none            /tmp/           tmpfs   noatime         0       0"

You mignt want or need to add "size=<size in Mb>M" on top of noatime, if
you wish to limit the space in RAM your folder will take (should be big
enouh to hold your firefox cache, at least, if you wish to minimize your
disk access while surfing).

Hope this helps a few.
