I had the "/usr/lib/cups/backend/http failed" error when I used 'http'
and I had the 'Unable to get printer status (client-error-forbidden)'
error when I used 'ipp' as the protocol.

This all happened after I upgraded to Dapper (printing was working fine
before that).

I found all my problems went away when I upgraded to cups1.2.1 from
cups1.2.0. This is not an official release, so I got it from:
http://packages.debian.org/testing/libs/libcupsys2

You need these packages installed in this order. The package manager
will complain that there are older versions available in the channel.

libcupsys2
libcupsimage2
cupsys

This is the path I used to the printer when configuring:
http://192.168.x.x:631/ipp
