Public bug reported:

Hi,

The "splash" kernel command line option was causing this Toshiba M40X
(lspci output attached) to "fade to white". ie, the laptop display
stops refreshing the pixels, and all the transistors slowly leak current
until the screen is white.

This is not related to the kernel's VESA handling; my reasoning for this
being that setting "vga=771" (1024x768x8 iirc) instead of "splash" in
/boot/grub/menu.lst, and then running update-grub, worked around the
problem.

It is not a hard hang, the system keeps going and will eventually boot
up. This affects the 6.06 Install/LiveCD as well.

The VGA card (PCI ID 1002:3150) appears in lspci as:
VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc M24 1P [Radeon Mobility X600]
