I used the ordinary xubuntu live cd, on an IBM Thinkpad 600X IIRC. I
repeated the install process about 4 times in different ways before I
worked out what was happening. In each case the wirless was working
fine in live-cd mode, only failing in the desktop install. Once I'd
worked it out I just booted the live cd and copied /etc/pcmcia/* into
/etc/pcmcia on the hard drive.
