Public bug reported:
Ubuntu was installed on my computer and worked fine until yesterday
(version 8.04, up-to-date every day). yesterday it reported errors after
boot screen with Ubuntu logo instead of switching to GUI mode. screen
output looks like this:
[unix-formatted time] ata1.00: exception Emask 0x0 SAct 0x0 SErr 0x0 action 0x2
frozen
[unix-formatted time] ata1.00: cmd a0/01:00:00:60:00/00:00:00:00:00/a0 tag 0
dma 96 in
[unix-formatted time] ata1.00: status: { DRDY }
it repeats about 6-8 times and than hangs. i took off hard drive and
tried to boot from LiveCD (versions from 6.xx to 8.04, same results).
screen output stays the same, except that it starts with this lines:
BusyBox v1.1.3 (Debian 1:1.1.3-5ubuntu12) Built-in shell (ash)
Enter 'help' for list of build-in commands.
(initramfs)
and just before system hangs there is one more line:
[unix-formatted time] ata1.00: revalidation failed (errno=-5)
memory test on LiveCD works and reports no errors. to check hardware
state i installed windows system and it's hardware tests reported no
errors too.
