Here it happens consistently, all the time, using Ubuntu and Xubuntu
6.10 Edgy Eft *Live* CDs (so it's not a problem with a particular
install). The problem occurs on both XFCE and Gnome.

After clicking on "Logout", or pressing Ctrl+Alt+Backspace, all the
windows and panels disappear - only the wallpaper and the mouse arrow
are left on the screen. The mouse arrow still works, but not the
keyboard: Caps Lock led doesn't turn on, and I can't switch to another
console (Ctrl+Alt+F1,F2,...) or shutdown the X server (pressing
Ctrl+Alt+Backspace).

I'm not using any 3D drivers, just an old on-board VGA adapter, so I
don't think it's related to nVidia drivers, fglrx or compiz. Everything
used to work fine on Dapper.

The machine I'm using is an old Athlon 1200+ in a motherboard PC Chips
M810-D (the chipset is SIS 740). Mouse and keyboard are USB, but I also
tried with standard PS/2.

I've disabled ACPI (on BIOS setup, in order to solve USB problems), but
it didn't affect the bug.

This problem is so annoying that I'll probably go back to Dapper if
there's no hope of solving it soon... :-(
