I have the same inconsistent behaviour here on a fresh Edgy install with the alternate CD. During the installation my Atheros-based wifi card was detected, and the connection was up and running after asking me for the essid and the key.
After I boot into Edgy, the card wasn't even detected and I was clueless, nothing in the logs. I had to [boot on another system and] browse into forums to know that restricted modules aren't included in Edgy. But they're used during alternate install... Rather confusing, if you consider that /etc/network/interfaces was automatically configured accordingly to the settings I gave during the installation process. -- linux-restricted-modules not installed on edgy-beta-alternative after detecting madwifi card https://launchpad.net/bugs/63006 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
