Also see bug #233787 as another Eee PC.  I'm not sure quirking off the
LVDS would solve this particular issue though.

Does it work better if you put this in your /etc/X11/xorg.conf?

n section "Section "Device"" add the line:

    Option "monitor-LVDS" "LVDS"

Then the following new section:

     Section "Monitor"
          Identifier "LVDS" Option "Ignore" "True" 

      EndSection

If so, we can quirk it.
