Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

Intrepid Ibex Alpha 5. Live CD and Install do the same thing, the
display is fine until X starts then the screen on my SONY VGN-FW140E
laptop (using the x4500MHD, aka Cantiga, aka G45 graphics chipset) turns
bright white then begins to fade in an uneven pattern over a period of
about 20 minutes. The computer continues to boot and acts like
everything is fine. If I have an external monitor hooked up to the VGA
port, I can get video on it just fine but the LVDS still does not work.

Using the external monitor, I have tried to change the resolution via
the RandR app, the screen will go blank for a second then return solid
white again and slowly begins to fade. The Xorg.0.log file does not
show anything strange and reports the proper resolution of the LVDS and
knows that it is attached.

I am able to use the VESA driver to get 1024x768 output on my 1600x900
laptop display.

I have also tried the latest Beta of Mandriva and get the exact same
results with it as I do with Intrepid Alpha 5.

I have noticed that when the display is white, if I switch to another VT
and back to VT7, I can see an after image of the text that was displayed
on the other VT. It almost looks like all the memory registers for the
display get charged and then are never refreshed so they begin to fade
as the charge on the memory dissipates. This is just a wild guess and
based solely on watching the screen.

I am using the 2:2.4.1-1ubuntu2 xserver-xorg-video-intel package.
The output of lspci -nn|grep VGA is 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]:
Intel Corporation Cantiga Integrated GraphicsController [8086:2a42] (rev 07)
