I have installed kubuntu fresh on a system with the filesystem split up
as:
/ , /var , /tmp , /home .
once the system is installed, the KDE menus are mangled as shown in the
attached screenshot.
as an example, the menu for kcron reads:
[IMG] _: Entries in K-menu: KCron app name, Task Scheduler desc...
Some menus end up OK (mostly menus added after the initial install --
but not all such applications).
This error seems to have existed since at least Tribes 5 (the first
version I installed), but I thought that somebody had obviously noticed
it.
About the only things that I can think that I have done differently than most
testers is:
1: virgin install (not an upgrade), and
2: splitting the filesystem ( / , /var, /tmp , /home ) [intent is to separate
fast-changing folders from /root ]
