It's because of this change in 1.0.0.rc14-2ubuntu4:

  * debian/dmraid.init: Drop, udev helps us start dmraid arrays now.

The init script was called from the postinst script when the package was
installed before, and that loaded the dm-mod module. Maybe we need a
"modprobe dm-mod" in the new postinst script so that the DMRAID devices
are available straight away (which is the current behaviour in Hardy)?
