So I changed the driver back to ati as originally was, added option "monitor layout" "LVDS,CRT"
and the driver now works... sort of. the resolution is now something horrible like 600x480 according to screen res prefs (to me it looks a little bit higher, maybe 800x600. Perhaps antialiasing?) Anyhow, it also says the refresh rate is -19556 Hz No other resolution choices are offered. So now the situation is this: Live CD unusable with standard boot options because freezes and you are locked out of console screens. Changing the boot line to remove splash lets you have access to the console screens after x/gdm boots and crashes. At this point you can switch xorg.conf to vesa or modify it so that ati driver works correctly, apparently as in the bugs you mentioned. -- xorg automatic configuration on edgy 6.10 live CD- branch for x-series ATI cards https://launchpad.net/bugs/69891 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
