** Description changed:

  Version: Linux laptop 2.6.24-19-generic #1 SMP Wed Aug 20 17:53:40 UTC 2008
x86_64 GNU/Linux
  Ubuntu 8.04.1
  Release: 8.04
  Laptop: Dell Inspiron 1720

  Bug:

When I hit the shutdown icon in the top-right corner the shuntdown options
appear "Suspend", "Restart" and "Shundown" menu appear and the background
appears to dim. But when I cancel the background does not restore to full
brightness.
I've attach a screen shot. I hope this shows the problem. It seems to be ok
in the image, but the right-click menu is very white while the background is
dimmed out.

The brightness control seems to have a effect, but it is still dark, and
the right click menu is still very bright compared to the desktop.

I expected the desktop to return to normal brightness, when I hit
  Cancel.
+
+ *Edit*
+
+ It only happens when Firefox is open. It does not happen when all
+ programs are closed.
