Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: e2fsprogs

I have an external USB disk with an ext3fs file system. I ran e2fsck on
it. It gave several "Illegal blocks" during Pass 1 and several "Block
bitmap differences" during Pass 5. To verify that the disk was ok after
e2fsck fixed these problems, I re-ran e2fsck. However, it again gave
several (other) "Illegal blocks" and "Block bitmap differences". After
that, I ran e2fsck two more times (total four times), and each time it
reported more errors.

I had expected all errors to be fixed by the first run of e2fsck. This
looks as if e2fsck corrupts the disk in new ways when trying to fix
problems.

My disk is called Samsung Xtend AdStore XAS3UI500. This is the same disk
that suffered from https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/129395 , and I'm
running a version of e2fsck which has that bug fixed. I attach a text
file that contains the full output of e2fsck, and also the full output
of dumpe2fs (I ran dumpe2fs after the fourth run of e2fsck). Some system
info:
