Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: pidgin

The description is a bit long, so bear with me:

I have multiple email sources (a hotmail account and a gmail account).
If you have just opened pidgin, the "mail counter bar" shows the correct number
of emails (right now, for instance, it says "4 new emails.").
After a while though (especially if you get new email in the mean time) this
number is updated incorrectly (for instance, it may say "12 new emails." while
I only have 4, but I have also seen extremes as "140 new emails" while I had
less than 10 at that time).
It is when this counter is incorrect (which is actually a bug in and of itself,
the counter should always equal #emails from 1st source + #emails from 2nd
source + ... + # emails from last source) that the bug from the description
occurs. When I click on the "mail counter bar", the "new mail" dialog opens and
shows a number of emails (a number of which are duplicate entries of one
another). If I close this dialog, pidgin as a whole crashes.

I've seen this problem every day for a number of weeks now, and I'm
pretty sure it's a bug in pidgin 2.5.x (or the libs used by it), but
I've also seen similar behavior in 2.4.x (at the very least the
incorrect counter problem).
