The live CD presents a perfect XFCE desktop. After a bit of thinking I remembered that when I installed Kubuntu 6.06 I also tried out the xubuntu desktop. Well, that install ended up in a very messy disaster which broke everything and forced me to reinstall Kubuntu from scratch. In that reinstall I didn't formatted the /home partition, so it is possible that that mess of a desktop was caused by some traces of those XFCE config options which were created then and were already stored in my ~/ directory.
I would try to once again reinstall the xubuntu desktop to test out this hypothesis but after last night (see https://launchpad.net/bugs/69990) I do not wish to attempt another install session at the moment. If you wish to close this report I will understand. -- Xubuntu installs XFCE without any taskbar, component https://launchpad.net/bugs/69991 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
