9/16/2008 Update. It turns out that this was a hardware problem related to not having jumpers on pins 5-6 and 9-10 of the FP-Audio 10-1 connector. I heard about this when Googling FP-Audio front panel. So the bug report should be withdrawn. It may be useful to add this reminder to the sound troubleshooting page. George Chacko
** Description changed: I don't have any sound output from my Asus K8V-MX/AMD Sempron 2800+ box running 8.04. I followed the trouble shooting guide at help.ubuntu.com/community/SoundTroubleshooting- see attached file. I also reinstalled Alsa-base using Synaptic without any success. AC'97 is enabled in BIOS and nothing is muted in the ALSA mixer. This problem was also noticed in ver 7 and 6 of Ubuntu- I never managed to get sound out of the machine.
