Binary package hint: xrandr
I upgraded to Intrepid on Friday, and since then my monitor
configuration has been a mess.
I've hot a laptop connected to a dock. The dock has two external
monitors connected.
First observation, the primary screen selection has changed since Hardy.
Although it's still the same two outputs active by default (TMDS-1 and
LVDS), the login prompt appears on LVDS, which has its lid shut. Oh
well. I can work around that. That's not this bug.
When I login, I open a terminal and execute the same script I've run for
the past several months to properly enable my external monitors:
xrandr --output LVDS --off
xrandr --output TMDS-1 --off # (this was added recently to try to work around
this problem)
xrandr --output VGA --auto --pos 0x0 --fbmm 537x345
xrandr --output TMDS-1 --auto --right-of VGA --fbmm 537x345
Executing this series of commands takes about 3 minutes to complete,
rather than the previous 20 seconds or so. The screens flicker several
times more than they used to. At two points it actually looks like it's
done thinking (waits for 20 seconds or so), then continues where it left
off.
What the heck caused xrandr to slow down so much?!
I've got an Intel i915 integrated video adapter. Let me know if there's
any other info you need.
