Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: menu

I received an error which recommends running dpkg --configure -a when trying to
install an update via update manager.
However this results in the following ouput in the terminal:

dpkg: ../../src/packages.c:221: process_queue: Assertion `dependtry <= 4'
failed.
Aborted (core dumped)

Installing via synaptic resulted in an apparently successful install but
generated this bug report. There was an error message in synaptic but my
whole system froze and restarted before I got the chance to write it
down (a separate issue!).
