My son and I recently installed Edgy. We've tried to get mplayer working as it did in Dapper. Good app, played just about everything in Dapper. We were also using an earlier version of Firefox (1.5X?).
As best as I can recall, I was trying to load a video off CNN.com and mplayer started to load the wmv file but kept hanging after about 25 percent was loaded. The screen seem to flicker and it would continually scroll through a series of screens with the first showing the message "connecting" or "connected" and then showing the url to the file. It would flash the download bar and it remained at the same point - about 25 percent. Eventually, I got the crash box and a suggestion to send info. I tried sending what I believe was the crash log but it was 16m and was taking forever to send. I've deleted the attachment. I've removed totem and the totem plugin and reinstalled mplayer and the mplayer plugin as was suggested elsewhere on the net but it hasn't made a difference. Be honest with you, we are looking to get mplayer to work in Edgy and I thought I was doing the right thing by listing what happen (or what I believed happened) when the crash notice came up. If I haven't given you the right info or haven't made it clear enough please close out the bug report. I don't feel like I have enough pertinent info to make going forward with the issue worth while. I just talked to my son and he is installing mplayer under Edgy on his machine. If it works on his then it's something to do with my machine. Guess we'd do a re-install of Edgy at that point. Thanks.
