This is an intermitent problem. since the bug report I have had two or
three re-occurances. I am a systems level programmer (but not for Linux
- yet) and have not been able to determine a cause and am not able to
create a situation which will always cause the problem to reoccur.

After reading your instuctions for generating a back trace, it does not
seem possible/reasonable for me to run /usr/bin/compiz.real under the
control of gdb for weeks (or months) waiting for a failure to occur
again.

do you have any other suggestions?
