Thanks Sebastien. I'm the maintainer in Debian, but I thought at this point in the release cycle simply bumping the Depends made more sense than bringing in the new version. Despite the fact that I see now that there never needed to be a direct Depends on libgnome-desktop-2 in the first place. I just want to make sure that this package doesn't get removed from the archive. I suppose if someone doesn't want to sponsor the sync, I could simply remove the Depends on libgnome-desktop-* all together, since as you say shlibs picks it up.
That said, I already have the new version in my PPA backported to both Hardy and Intrepid with no source changes needed.
