Apparently there are no evident symptoms except that sound works with OSS but not with ALSA or Autodetect. So for example gdm doesn't play sounds anymore while rhythmbox does (with OSS). The system hangs a few seconds before displaying that line related to HDA response timeout. Another thing I observed is that my swap partition isn't correctly activated, but I think it is not related to this boot message.
