Actually this has been happening to me since Gutsy or may be even Feisty. What happens is that -- with ANY kernel -- when the machine wakes up from suspension or hibernation, I'm asked for the password and it always gets rejected. When I press Alt+Ctrl+F1 then Alt+Ctrl+F7 and try again it always works.
