Public bug reported:
I tried to use a POP3 account with mail-notification 5.4 which had a
password with an umlaut (ä,ö,ü) in it.
It fails with "authentication failure" for the particular account. Other
accounts on the same server (but no umlauts in password) worked fine.
The account also works fine with thunderbird.
