** Summary changed:
- T60 thinkpad won't boot graphically for linux-2.6.27-1-generic
+ (some) thinkpads hard hang at boot
** Description changed:
- I downloaded and installed the 2.6.27-1-generic package. (See bug 218700
- for precisely what I did.)
+ symptoms:
- If I chose a normal boot, it hung early in the boot process. If I chose
- the "recovery mode" (or whatever it's called), the boot worked fine. I
- tried the normal graphical boot again, and it hung again. I didn't find
- anything that looked like a dmesg log from the failed boots, although
- perhaps I wasn't looking correctly.
+ boot succeeds to mount rootfs, check file systems until about loading
+ 'restricted modules' and then hard hangs. no caps lock working anymore.
+ I did not find dmesg output in /var/log/dmesg when this happens.
- The dmesg from the successful recovery-mode boot is attached to bug
- 218700.
+ (confirmed) affected Models:
+ T60
+ X60s
+
+ Affected kernels:
+ 2.6.27-1-generic
+ 2.6.27-3-generic (at least sometimes)
+ 2.6.27-4-generic_2.6.27-4.5 (always)
+
+ Original reporter points to bug #218700 for additional information.
