I was mistaken - the problem still exists. It is less frequent after a clean install, but still there.
I have come to believe that this is due to the fact that the tc1100_WMI driver is missing from Kernel 2.6.24. I'm currently testing 2.6.27, running under Hardy - we'll see what happens.
