I didn't have resolvconf installed. Tried to install it, but there was no change in behaviour - my employer's domain was added to the «search» list, but the nameserver itself wasn't added. The «domain» setting was completely absent from the file (both with and without VPN active), and the comment indicated that the file was generated by resolvconf instead of NetworkManager.
The regression is the same in both cases; my employers DNS server, pushed by the OpenVPN server as a dhcp-option «DNS», isn't added. Also it's worth noting that resolvconf is in universe, so it's not installed by default, and I therefore expect everything to work just fine (like it did in Hardy) without it. Installing the resolvconf package didn't help with the default route redirection either, unsurprisingly. I think your two bug reports can be merged with this one, Michael.
