Binary package hint: nautilus
Hi,
I have problems trying to get Nautilus to connect to a particular FTP server.
I actually use two different FTP accounts/servers, Nautilus works perfectly
with one of them, but for some reason it always fails to connect to the second
server. However I can connect to said server just fine, using a standalone FTP
client (for instance gFTP) or even something as simple as a web browser
(Epiphany here).
So I have no idea why Nautilus fails to connect ! :-/
I tried to debug it, but Nautlus doesn't provide any "debug" or
"verbose" mode when one starts it from the command line, and the error
message it gives is not very informative (see screenshot attached), as
it basically just reads "could not connec to host", without giving any
technical detail.
Here is the server address: perso.modulonet.fr
user name: troutrou
One doesn't need the password in order to reproduce this bug, so I will
keep it for me ;-)
Steps to reproduce:
1) Start Nautilus, go to File->Connect to Server
2) Select "FTP with login" and enter perso.modulonet.fr as server address, and
"troutrou" as user name, and click "Connect".
What happens: an error window shows up, complaing that it could not
connect to the host.
What is expected (based on behaviour on my other ftp account, which
works just fine): pop up a little dialog, asking for the password, then
sucessfully show the remote files and directories.
Since Nautilus doesn't provide a debug mode to show me what's going
wrong exactly, and since nobody on the Ubuntu users list could solve the
problem either... I see no option but report this as a bug, hoping the
devs would know how to trouble shoot it !?
I am very annoyed not to be able to access this server from within
Nautilus (since I only need very basic FTP functionnality, starting a
standalone FTP client is always overkill), so I am willing to help
debugging this in every way I can ! Just tell me what to do... and I
will do it.
