I cannot reproduce this using any of the following Pidgin versions:
1:2.5.0-0ubuntu2~hardy1
1:2.4.1-1ubuntu2.1
1:2.5.1-0ubuntu1
In the case of 1:2.5.1-0ubuntu1 on Intrepid, libpurple-bin is not
installed.
