Recall, my MO is a STB.  If there is anything NFS mounted there at all
it's a convenience and should not interfere with STB mode.  There are no
home directories because there are no users.

Right, which is what I do, but my solution is not specific to my
situation, it covers anyone who wants to use mythbuntu in STB mode.
