I am also experiencing sound problems since the last kernel upgrade
(plus other sound package upgrades) from yesterday (September 25).
- I don't have either of /etc/asound.conf or ~/.asoundrc*
# dpkg -l libasound2\*|grep ^ii
ii libasound2 1.0.17a-0ubuntu3
ALSA library
ii libasound2-dev 1.0.17a-0ubuntu3
ALSA library development files
ii libasound2-plugins 1.0.17-0ubuntu3
ALSA library additional plugins
This is on a Thinkpad T61, and sound has been working great until
yesterday's upgrades.
