** Description changed: On a Toshiba Satellite Pro 4600 (Trident Cyberblade), running fully up- to-date Hardy Heron, any changes written to xorg.conf are always overwritten when gdm restarts. - update + #### Update + Somethings I forgot yesterday (when I created the bug) . On install, in order to get 'proper' screen resolution, I followed the advice at http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=763964&highlight=trident" - which, since it worked well first time, was most welcome:-). . Setting resolution, using displayconfig-gtk, works immediately. Attempting to change the resolution using System->Preferences->Screen Resolution has no effect - even after a restart. . After the restart the login screen is at the expected resolution - following login, the user session starts in 800x640 resolution until changed as above. + . The reset resolution only occurs for Gnome user sessions - the resolution is retained for KDE sessions.
