Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: gnome-system-tools
Bug 14301 disabled the GUI for "show all users and groups" for a pretty
good reason -- dozens of weird 'hidden' user names would confuse normal
end users. Groups are a less scary concept that's worth having
convenient access to, without having to learn about the GConf 'showall'
workaround, which will show all groups *and* all users.
Case #1:
Alice's newly created user account can't make use of her UVC webcam. She learns
that a user must be a member of the 'video' group to use a camera. Not finding
it under "Manage Groups," she resorts to using the command-line with the
'usermod' command someone in a forum told her about.
Case #2:
Bob has the same problem, but wanting to restrict himself to a safe GUI,
discovers the GConf 'showall' key and toggles it. Opening the video group's
small 'Properties' window, he must scroll through 30+ system-created users to
find his own user name.
