nvidia-common is not the right package for this report. Furthermore I
can't help you unless you post your /var/log/Xorg.0.log and your
/etc/X11/xorg.conf.
And it looks more like a framebuffer (hardware?) limitation to me.
Knowing the model of your card might help too.
