Public bug reported:

i noticed that when using the same default font dpi (96dpi), windows
tends to offer a lot more working space than ubuntu ! Actually u can
check, the buttons and widgets in ubuntu are yoo large ! I'm not just
reporting this for the aesthetics but it's a major usability problem.
Think about it, in windows, thanks to the compact widgets, a program
with a LOT of options and options would fit on the screen but the same
program, if designed for ubuntu, would need a much larger screen to fit.
I can fix this in ubuntu by choosing 83 as font dpi, thus making the
fonts smaller and fit more text in 1 scree. But this does not always fix
the oversized widgets problem. This shoul really be investigated because
a program like photoshop gets some good working space in windows, but if
EVER ported to linux it wouldn't have half of that space since the
precious screen space would be wasted on oversized widgets.
