Acting on Robert Persson's suggestion, I have created an Ubuntu Wiki page that I hope will be populated with information and fixes:

I don't know much about this specific bug, the packages that cause it, or even which fix proposed will work, so I can't add much beyond that. PLEASE go to the wiki page and contribute what you can.
