*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 37678 *** Also, the prescribed workaround of editing out DRI doesn't change the fact that the ctr-alt-f[1-6] consoles are gibberish. It seemed to make it so the I didn't have to relaunch X on trying to return from a gibberish console, but the console was still gibberish.
