dennisharrison: thanks for your reply. I appreciate the fact that you
want to help slamdunk however your solution is a workaround, not the
solution to the problem described in this bug report (i.e. a problem
with the "nvidia-glx-177" package). I was trying to see whether it was
something I should fix in Ubuntu or not.
slamdunk: The NVIDIA installer (maybe in addition to some other things
slamdunk did) broke what the packages in Ubuntu installed. I guess there
is no easy way around it other than restoring any broken symlink.
In any case it looks like it's not a bug in the package itself but
something which was caused by the NVIDIA installer (which is not
officially supported in Ubuntu). For this reason I'm marking this bug
report as invalid.
