Fine with me. Let me clarify:
- I find it important that i can use my eID on Ubuntu, as I've given up on
Windows XP and intend to use Ubuntu as my main OS. Earlier Belpic packages are
rather buggy, re also http://www.stroobant.be/ : he apparently recompiled
wouter verhelst's 'debian' belpic for ubuntu, and suggests it's best to track
edgy for this package.
- I'm a civil servant working for a Belgian local gov. and am contemplating
using Ubuntu eg on internbet computers in our public library. People would
expect us to support the Belgian eID.
- I'm not asking for help with any breakage. I got it working (see write-up).
In the process, I noticed some bugs or inconsistencies, so I thought I'd report
them so the package could be improved.

I'm a bit confused here. Maybe the name 'Belpic' stuck with me from looking at
Ubuntu Dapper binary packages or so. Do you main there is no and will not be a
binary package called 'Belpic' ?
Maybe I should have filed a bug report against beid-tools then ?

In my experience, it is also required to get de Belpic PC/SC daemon working ;
withouit it one gets
"Belpic PC/SC daemon: 20:39:30: Error: Failed to load shared library
'libpcsclite.so: ... "
that would be belpcscd from beid-tools maybe ?

version 2.5.9-5 of the binaries provided by "belpic" + pcscd 1.3.1-2 ; all from

-1-
"Belpic PC/SC daemon: 20:39:30: Error: Failed to load shared library
'libpcsclite.so: ... " "winscard_clnt.c:320:SCardEstablishContextTH() Cannot
open public shared file: /var/run/pcscd.pub "

=> both can be solved by installing an additional package, but those are
not listed as dependencies. Sounds like a missing depedency to me, but I
could be wrong.

-2-
'apt-get -t edgy install belpic' returns a dependency problem as well :

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
 belpic: Depends: libbelpic0 (>= 2.3.13.full)

Since you only requested a single operation it is extremely likely that
the package is simply not installable and a bug report (...)

but as you say 'belpic' is not a binary (in Edgy), maybe this is just a
Dapper >< Edgy dependency conflict.
