I have the same problem on LG-s1 on Intrepid Ibex current kernel and latest sound packages from PPA. It's been like that since I installed edgy: microphone not working on startup.
My workaround is relatively simple, but still annoying: 1. Open volume control 2. Go to options tab 3. Change the first "Input Source" field from mic to line 4. Change it back to mic It is annoying because I do not know how to write a script that will do it when I start gnome session.
