Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: pidgin

Maybe related to #218439

In Pidgin for Intrepid I've been having a problem for over a month of
Pidgin appearing to be frozen for long periods of time. As it turns
out, its not frozen it's just using 100% cpu. At first I thought it was
the act of opening other programs or switching between programs that
would cause pidgin to freeze but once I realized that pidgin almost
always uses 100% cpu things became more clear. Because Pidgin is using
100% of the cpu on one cpu core the computer is still mostly responsive,
but in those cases where the computer has a good bit of work todo and it
maxes out the other cpu core then pidgin (or maybe the other
application) appears to freeze.

I'm happy to provide as many additional details as possible, please see
the attached screenshot as well.
